Dedicated with love to Jess.

Sean pushed open the French windows and stepped onto the patio. It was a warm Spring morning and he turned his face to the sun, inhaling the heady smell of blossom hanging sweetly in the air. He wandered into the garden, following the sounds of playful barking and laughter, and relishing the feel of the soft grass beneath his bare feet. It was so good to be home again.

“That’s it, Maude! Fetch! Good girl, such a good girl!”

Orlando’s musical giggles floated across the garden and Sean followed the well-loved voice like a beacon. He rounded a large cherry tree, its snowy blossoms full and lush, to see his lover and their dog tussling playfully on the lawn.

“Sean!” Orlando’s face broke into a huge smile, his dark eyes shining with love. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”

Sean smiled in return, falling in love just that little bit more with the man who meant the world to him. “You didn’t, sweetheart. You know what it’s like with jet lag…”

Orlando rose gracefully, the supple motion of his long, lean body drawing Sean’s eye. As Orlando walked towards him, a gentle breeze scattered pure white petals to the wind.

“Confetti!” Orlando laughed, raising his hands to catch the delicate blossom floating around him.

Sean stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Orlando’s slim waist, pressing his face against the column of his lover’s elegant, tanned throat and inhaling the enticing aroma of warm skin and petals. He lifted his head and whispered, “You know that I’d do it in a heartbeat, if I could, sweetheart.”

“I know, love,” Orlando smiled shyly, hugging Sean to him. “And that means more to me than any piece of paper.”

More blossom fell but both men were oblivious, their lips joined in the sweetest of kisses.
